The orientation of the building was determined by UEFA IV regulations, and accordingly to them the football field was set in the position that is rotated 10 degrees to the north south axis. The main part of the green area around the stadium was planned free of closure so these premises can be involved in the life of the city.
The museum shop, the ascending concrete walls and the hedges form a ring around the stadium and set up a first closure opened in many points. On the day of the football games this arrangement ensures the first filter of visitors, helping the organizers of the event this way. The stadium building becomes an integral part of the ring as well.
The institution has two main parts: the stadium and the multifunctional sport hall. The shape of the two buildings are strikingly different. The stadium’s structure was built from steel frames and covered with tensioned membrane in the shape of an arc. The hall that gives place to other sports facilities has a more simple appearance with its rectangular shape.
The layout of the stadium and the hall was created with the desire for functional order considering the local conditions and the surrounding transport system. The layout of the inner passages in the sports hall was determined by the everyday functions of the several departments. The layout of the stadium was planned according to the functional requirements set on the days of the football game and it provides separated paths for sportspeople, fans, the press, the building operation team, VIP guests and the staff.
The interior design is an important part of the building complex. The stadium and the sports hall create an industriual milieu through their function. Interior designer (Kriszta Fülöp)’s task was to make this milieu lighter and softer.
The engineers of the steel structure took pains over the aesthetic appearance of the details. The design and the implementation were rewarded by the Tierney Clark prize in 2018.
The architectural appearance is based on Péter Bordás’s concept and was created according to the construction plans of our office.
